Barge math
Safety . That's the rule. The load capacities listed in the price list above are carefully calculated to keep you safe while maximizing your pay load capacities. In brief, we substract the tare weight from the maximum load capacity of the barge then factor that by F.O.S = 2.0. The resulting "Save Deck" Load must be centered at the load center as indicated on the deck of your barge, and further the center of gravity, measured vertically, of the load must be within 25% of the barge width, of the deck surface. The load must also be secured such that it is not possible for the load to shift no matter the sea state or the loading and unloading procedures. For further insights or consultation for a particular load please consult with BetterBarge.b or a qualified naval architect or engineer. Further the deck load may not exceed 280 psf except where the deck has been appropriately engineered and or point loads have been engineered accordingly.
